Biography

Although his primary studies were in preparation for a law degree at the University of California in Santa Cruz (USA), Matthew Simon continued his trumpet studies at Cabrillo College in Santa Cruz. He has had the privilege of studying privately with trumpet legends Bobby Shew and James Stamp. Later he would complement his studies at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts (USA), where he studied with Jeff Stout and Greg Hopkins through a Berklee Scholarship.

Since 1975 he has resided in Spain, where he has had an extensive and varied career. Matthew has worked with both Spanish and international musical stars from all styles. He has been a featured trumpet player in innumerable recordings and in various fields: commercials and jingles (Bacardí rum, Nissan, Agua de Coimbra fragance, Estrella beer, Martini), television (Spanish Public Television, Channel 3, Channel South, TV3), the Goya Awards ceremony, the Barcelona 1992 Summer Olympic Games...

In 1986 he shared the stage with Miles Davis in the Barcelona International Jazz Festival (Spain).
