He began playing the trumpet at 9 years old in a band belonging to his neighbourhood school in Malaga — the band is now called Banda Juvenil de Música Miraflores-Gibraljaire — the same as in the Málaga Conservatory. He then joined the Spanish National Youth Orchestra, where he was awarded a scholarship to study at the Royal Music Conservatory of Madrid (Spain) under José Maria Ortí, where he graduated with honours.
It was during this period that he began working with numerous Spanish orchestras such as Málaga Symphony, Euskadi Symphony, Madrid Symphony, Gran Canarias Philharmonic, Asturias Symphony, Queen Sofía Chamber Orchestra, Cadaqués Orchestra, Johann Sebastian Bach Chamber Orchestra, Moscow’s Virtuous, Spanish National Orchestra and the Spanish Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra where obtaining his current position at the age of 25.
His debut as a soloist occurred in the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris (France), in a concert during the celebration of the bicentenary of the French Revolution. This was the start of an intense career as a trumpet soloist accompanied both by symphony orchestras and by organ or piano.
He had the fortunate privilege of studying and working on the complete trumpet works of Alexandr Arutiunian with the composer. He was invited to perform the composer’s Theme and Variations and the Trumpet Concerto with the Armenian National Orchestra in Armenia on the occasion of the celebration of the Arutiunian’s 80th birthday in the year 2000.
Benjamín Moreno has participated as a jury member for the international trumpet competitions of Toulon (France), Benidorm (Spain) and Porcia (Italy). He has taught masterclasses in Spain, Italy, France, Armenia and Argentina.
